An attractive impromptu fish market in Tamil Nadu, recovering from the 2004 tsunami.

Nagapattinam would not immediately feature high on my list of places to visit, but as it was one of the hardest hit towns in India after the December 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, I happen to have come here quite a few times, workwise.

There is nothing of specific touristic interest here, but it is a nice-enough, friendly town. A small harbour is full of colourful, wooden fishing boats. What is more, it has a great fish market, impromptu organized when the fishing fleet comes in, and for somebody who is fascinated by markets, this is a not-to-be-missed event.

Just a couple of photos, to give you an impression. I am sure there are many more towns like this along the Indian coast.
