The last of the Central Asian countries we visited in Spring 2015, a journey captured in the ‘Stans’ blog. Most of the country is the Pamirs, and its touristic highlight is without doubt the Pamir Highway, crossing several 4000m + passes. A few locations have been linked below for easy access, but they are not different from the blog entries.
high altitude village in the Eastern Pamirs
small-scale administrative centre of Eastern pamirs
base for exploration of the Wakhan Valley and other valleys and passes
booming, and surprisingly well-maintained, Tajik capital
base for exploring several ancient, mud-walled cities
a pleasant western town, with wooden mosques and bazaar
