one of the several steam engines located at Darjeeling

Just because it is so fascinating, seeing old steam engines being operated by machinists, riding century-old railway tracks crossing the road, and negotiating other ancient railway station elements, a few more photos from the heart of the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, Darjeeling itself.

My brother would have loved this, I am sure!

the multiple tracks of Darjeeling Railway Station

not sure what this construction was used for, a deep gully protected by fences from the platfors on both sides; the stairs at the end suggest people could get to work under the train

and this was a construction to rotate the engine 180o

one of the engines in the Loco shed

there are two tracks in the Loco shed, and lots of engines

and I cannot get enough of it

they still run on coal, which is supplied to the train by hand

another one, in full glory

and there they go, belching steam in the process

a fired-up engine, running on coal

there are also a couple of diesel engines

and a switch, together with the switch guard

even at night the Loco shed in Darjeeling is a fascinating sight
