shutters of a window on one of the many colonial buildings in Kolkata

Because I have so many pictures of the fabulous, if deteriorating buildings of the Calcutta colonial era, I have added an extra entry, on some of the structures that didn’t make the main entry on Kolkata. I could have included many more…

and there is more to Kolkata (2)

Gillander House, another one of those enormous colonial buildings in Calcutta

the gate, of the same

close up of the same

and above the gate, elephants as decoration

Standard & Chartered bank, a massive entrance

and an even more massive interior space, not being used at the moment

Currency Building is another impressive architectural example

one where the inner courtyard has been well maintained

a nice marble floor

and attractive green wall tiles

Surana Mansion is a large cmplex near the Hogg’s market

several stories, multiple balconies, and some modern refurbishments

some of the buildings are being maintained better

Saint John’s church was one of the earlier churches in Calcutta

but here, too, the interior is rather humble, compared to lots of other old churches

a random building from colonial times

and obviously, falling apart, in this case

this one, too, has had its better days

yet, this one has been patched up, and is clearly inhabited, looks nice
